What is the Diocese doing?

  • Developed Environmental Good Practice for the Old Deanery (pdf, 60k).
  • Negotiated a scheme for churches, schools, vicarages and members of congregations to purchase electricity from a 100% renewable supplier.  Sign up here.
  • Will be purchasing green electricity from Spring 2010, when the current contract expires.
  • Using as much local produce as possible for church events,
    e.g. LEAF initiative.
  • Phasing out bottled water.
  • Recycling and composting at the Old Deanery.
  • Purchasing office materials from recycled or sustainably sourced materials.
  • Duplex printers for two-sided printing and re-use of office paper.
  • Monitoring of waste and energy at Old Deanery.

  • The Cathedral regularly runs a Fairtrade stall after the Sunday 9.45am service, and the refectory aims to purchase its supplies from local and Fairtrade sources.
